As more Brits include their furry friends in significant life events like weddings, this trend is beginning to extend beyond the big day - many couples are now choosing to bring their dogs along on their honeymoons as well. With searches for 'minimoon destinations' rising 150% in the last 90 days, many are opting for UK-based getaways that include their canine companions, as highlighted in a recent viral TikTok.

The recent TikTok video by Tasmin (@maybetamsin), which currently has over 70k views and 8k likes, shows her experience of traveling with her dog on her honeymoon. In the video, Tasmin shares how she brought her dog, Rhubarb, along on their UK staycation 'minimoon,' offering a glimpse into a dog-friendly getaway after their wedding, where Rhubarb also made a special appearance.

To explore this trend further, Shark has surveyed 2,000 pet owners about their views on traveling with pets, as well as what you should prioritise when taking them with you.

WOULD YOU TAKE YOUR DOG ON YOUR HONEYMOON?

Replies to the TikTok included comments like, "So nice of Rhubarb to let you and Henry come along!" and "Rhubarb the people's princess living her best life," highlighting the enthusiasm for including furry friends in post-wedding travels.

Research from Shark shows that just over 1 in 5 Brits (28%) think dogs should be at weddings, with 34% of millennials (aged 25-34) agreeing. But does this sentiment extend to traveling with pets after the big day?

According to the research, 39% of Brits are in favour of taking their pets on holiday, and 35% are comfortable with their dogs joining them on long car journeys - perfect for UK staycations and honeymoons.

THINGS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER BEFORE TAKING YOUR DOG ON YOUR 'MINIMOON'

In Tamsin's video, she highlights four key factors to consider for making a dog-friendly minimoon an unforgettable experience:

  1. Pet-friendly accommodation - Prioritising a pet-friendly hotel is essential. Just like the one featured in Tamsin's TikTok, researching hotels that accommodate pets and understanding their policies - such as where your dog can go within the property - ensures a smooth and stress-free stay.
  2. Dog-friendly dining - Discovering dog-friendly dining options, as showcased in Tamsin's video, can greatly enhance your 'minimoon'. Whether it's enjoying a leisurely breakfast or a refined dinner, knowing that your furry friend is welcome makes for a more relaxed and enjoyable dining experience.
  3. Engaging dog dog-friendly activities - Planning activities and outings that include your dog, such as scenic walks or day trips, keeps your pet engaged and happy throughout the trip. Choosing activities that cater to both you and your dog ensures a memorable and inclusive minimoon.
  4. Be prepared for your dog's needs - Ensuring you're well-prepared with your dog's food, favourite toys, and any other necessities contributes to a seamless experience. Check in advance whether the hotel provides pet supplies or if you need to bring your own to keep your furry companion comfortable.
