Former glossy magazine editors, Lorraine Candy and Trish Halpin, the women behind the chart-topping Postcards from Midlife podcast, have just launched their inaugural midlife retreat at the St Moritz Hotel + Cowshed Spa in Rock, Cornwall.
The two-day long retreat (running from the 15th until the 17th of March) will be limited in numbers and packed with energising talks, friendship walks, and activities including cold water dips, sound baths, nourishing food and wellness workshops.
The successful Postcards from Midlife podcast strives to help women make the most of their magnificent midlife and to change society's outdated narrative of what it means to be a peri and post-menopausal woman now. It celebrates the highs, and triumphs over the lows, offering invaluable support and advice from Lorraine and Trish's network of experts and warm, witty celebrity friends.
Located just minutes from the stunning coastal path and Daymer Bay, their first-ever unique retreat at the stunning St Moritz Hotel promises a carefully curated blend of invigorating and informative experiences alongside insightful and inspirational discussions with like-minded women.
Lorraine and Trish will divulge lessons they have learnt over the years from interviewing more than 200 experts and celebrities. Retreat-goers will also get the opportunity to partake in a live recording of their chart-topping podcast from the hotel. Workshops will be run by an inspirational lineup of women such as somatic movement coach, Nahid de Belgeonne, AKA the Nervous System Whisperer and author of Soothe: The Book Your Nervous System has Been Waiting For and chef Emily Scott, author, mum of three and regular on Saturday Kitchen (who incidentally cooked for the world leaders during the G7 summit in Cornwall).
On Sunday the 17th of March, special guest Cathy Rentzenbrink will chat about her book How To Feel Better: A Guide to Navigating the Ebb and Flow of Life. Cathy is also the author of the Sunday Times best-seller The Last Act of Love.
The break includes two nights at the St Moritz Hotel + Cowshed Spa (single and double accommodation available in the hotel's cosy or king rooms or their gargantuan suites), healthy, delicious breakfasts and lunches in the Seaside Café and two-course evening meals in the hotel's Shorecrest restaurant as well as informal tea breaks. A Wild Spa hot and cold-water contrast therapy experience is also included as well as optional reinvigorating pre-breakfast dips in the outdoor pool, led by Lorraine herself, and a relaxing evening sound bath.
This retreat offers the perfect opportunity to learn the art of destressing in midlife, network, meet new friends whilst spending two days with the former glossy magazine editors Lorraine Candy (now a best-selling parenting author) and Trish Halpin (now a qualified executive coach) who will share practical advice on midlife careers, parenting teens, empty nesting, women's health and their own personal 'second act' reinvention journeys after their careers at helm of magazines such as Marie Claire.
Lorraine Candy said, "This is our first-ever midlife retreat after more than four years of producing our chart-topping podcast Postcards From Midlife and we're excited to be recording an episode of the show in Cornwall with a live audience. This will be a unique experience for guests at St Moritz Hotel; we have three celebrated authors coming. Local chef Emily Scott, who cooked for the G7, Sunday Times best-selling author Cathy Rentzenbrink from Falmouth and somatic movement coach Nahid de Belgeonne."
Lorraine continued, "I grew up in Liskeard, near Bodmin Moor where my family live and I have a home in Polzeath. I got married at Enodoc church close by so it was important to me to host something in my home county and benefit a business there. This is why we chose the St Moritz Hotel. The team understood our midlife mission. When I came to the Rock Oyster Festival last year to sign copies of my book on midlife I was overwhelmed by the support of residents and visitors to the county, and we felt we could create something nourishing for women looking to come to Cornwall for a break."
Sara Last, director of operations at the St Moritz Hotel + Cowshed Spa, said, "With our upcoming £2+ million spa renovation, and our current hot and cold contrast therapy Wild Spa, we are on an ongoing mission to make St Moritz Hotel the optimum wellness destination in the South West. Working with such legendary women to host their first-ever midlife-focussed retreat is an honour and a pleasure for us. We're very much looking forward to welcoming Trish, Lorraine, all their special guests and their retreat attendees to our Cornish home, and to our surrounding natural playground, and to providing a safe space for two days of nourishment, education, experience, sharing, rest and rejuvenation."
More than just a hotel, St Moritz and its Cowshed Spa has elements of a transatlantic beach resort, as befits its name. In the quiet hamlet of Trebetherick, between Rock and Polzeath on the stunning Cornish north coast, it's the ideal destination for a relaxing beach holiday, indulgent spa break or family get-together.
Thirty spaces are available for the Postcards from Midlife retreat. There will be free time to unwind and explore beautiful beaches just minutes from the hotel and all its facilities including the Cowshed Spa (the only one outside of Soho House properties). Prices start from £900 for a cosy room. To find out more or book, visit call 01208 862 242.
