The Falmouth Cringe Comedy Festival is returning to Cornwall from 6 – 9 July 2023 and this year the festival is expanding, promising to bring a programme of events that everyone in the community will enjoy. Headliners include Shaparak Khorsandi and Tim Key.
On Saturday 8th July, The Falmouth Cringe will take over the open-air stage at Kimberly Park to put on free, family-friendly performances so that everyone can participate in the festival. On that day, adding an extra touch of musical charm to The Falmouth Cringe at 1 pm, the Karnos Brass Band will be gracing the Kimberly Park stage with their upbeat performance. Inspired by the vibrant spirit of the street bands in New Orleans, this nine-piece brass ensemble, accompanied by a battery of percussion, will perform their energetic music for the community to enjoy.
At 3 pm, Squashbox Theatre will take over the Kimberly Park stage with their wildly entertaining family friendly 'Sea Show' which promises to deliver a quirky and hilarious mix of puppet show, natural history and comedy cabaret. Other family friendly comedy performances include comedy duo Shelf, the esteemed winners of the Best Kids' Show 2023 at the Leicester Comedy Festival. This enchanting performance is set to captivate audiences of all ages combining sketches, songs, pranks, and silliness. Tickets are now available for 'Shelf: The Kids Show' which takes place at 1 pm on Saturday July 8th.
Ciska Earle, co-director of The Falmouth Cringe said: "Our inaugural Cringe was such a major success and this year, we're extending what we do with this range of family friendly sketches and shows. We are thrilled to present these family friendly and free events as part of the Falmouth Cringe Comedy Festival. We believe in making comedy accessible to all, and these performances most certainly exemplify the spirit of our festival, appealing to everyone whether little or big! Thanks to our sponsors at Falmouth BID, Portwrinkle Holidays and FEAST, we're delighted to deliver a festival that fosters a real sense of community and we're so looking forward to seeing everyone together again, laughing and lightening the mood!"
Richard Wilcox, executive director of Falmouth BID, a sponsor of The Falmouth Cringe under Falmouth Creates, said: "Falmouth has now become well known, locally, regionally and nationally as the port that always has something going on. The Falmouth Cringe Comedy Festival is a perfect example of the creative dynamism that's constantly on display, and the organisers' commitment to widening the appeal with a whole range of family-friendly options for 2023, alongside a set of impressive national headline acts, is just brilliant to see."
