Don't miss the free Open Event at Upton Barn on Sun 11th June
If you're looking for a stylish Devon-based wedding venue, there's never a better time...
Since June is a month in which we honour Rosé wines (International Rosé Day is the 11th) and English wines (English Wine Week is 18-25th), Devon-based Wickhams' first pick of the month is both pink and from these shores and their second, imported by and exclusive to Wickhams, represents exceptional quality and value from elsewhere - it's the Lyme Bay Pinot Noir Rosé 2019, Devon, £22.20 Single Bottle or £19.98 Any 6 Mix / ABV 11%.
Made at their HQ in the beautiful Axe Valley, Devon with the best pinot noir grapes sourced from three outstanding vineyards in Essex, this stunning wine from Lyme Bay Winery is a real 'Best in Show' English Rosé. Refined and elegant it has subtle notes of red berry fruit and a soft creamy finish on the palate. In the glass it shows a pale colour just kissed with the slightest hint of salmon pink. The nose presents aromas of delicate red berry fruits, strawberries and raspberries. This is followed by red berries on the palate with good balanced acidity and structure from the red fruit combined with a mouth-watering acidity and a lingering finish.
It's perfect served chilled with seafood and light pasta dishes. Fermented in 100% stainless steel with malolactic fermentation inhibited to promote the fresh primary fruit character of the wine, with six hours of skin contact given to enhance colour extraction. The fermentation was cool with extended fine lees ageing to add structure to the mid-palate and promote a rounded finish.
The team at Wickhams are passionate about English wines, as evidenced by earning the accolade of 'Specialist Merchant of the Year, England' at last year's International Wine Challenge Awards. In the month of June they will present English wines in two formats. First, on Thursday 22nd June, Dan Farrell-Wright and colleague Pip Vanham AIWS DipWSET will host a 'Discover English Wines' virtual tasting. These informal and fun tasting evenings are a great chance to taste six specially chosen wines, from the comfort of your own sofa. Tickets are £15 and include enough wine for two people to taste. Information and tickets are available here.
Then on Saturday 24th June, Wickhams is hosting their second annual English Wine Extravaganza event at Exeter's Mercure Rougemont Hotel. A chance to meet producers, attend masterclasses and taste over 60 of the finest English wines. Information and tickets available here
